Placement Beats Unlocks: The Real Skill In Tower Defense
New players tend to obsess over which tower to unlock next. Veterans know the bigger lever is almost always where that tower actually goes, and the difference shows up fast once waves start overlapping.
Overlap beats raw damage. Two average towers covering the same choke point usually outperform one strong tower covering an open stretch with nothing backing it up.
Chokepoints multiply value. A tower aimed at a corner where enemies slow down gets far more hits in than the same tower aimed at a straight, fast lane.
Late-game maps punish early mistakes. A poorly placed tower from wave one still takes up space at wave twenty, when every tile matters far more than it did at the start.
None of this needs a strategy guide memorized - just a habit of pausing before placing, rather than dropping towers as fast as the gold allows.
